ABOUT
Virtual Printing House is an analog of the first printing houses. Here you can find everything you need to create small, but unique print of your own. Also, it gives you a possibility to explore printing history and get a closer look to the first printing presses.
Visitors of the Virtual Printing House can construct a printing press, choose a type (font) and create their own text in similar manner that was used few hundred years ago by the first printers (typographers). Various decorative ornaments are available and can be painted using colours that were common at the time. Visitors are free to save their creations, share with friends or just print them out.
Virtual Printing House is open for everyone and can be used in various ways. Teachers could use it as a learning tool in history or art lessons. It can also be applied to university programs of book science, design, history etc. Virtual Printing House is also open for everyone who just feels curious and wants to try it. We encourage visitors to create original greeting cards or even books.
The Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences is among the largest and most important libraries in the country. The Rare Books Department holds the oldest and most unique books. Two of which were used to create the Virtual Printing House. It all began with a collective effort of the employees of the Digitization, Communication, Holdings and User Service and the Rare Book departments. The virtual printing press and website were created by Laurynas Liberis (Bright.lt) and Justinas Vilimas (Pixel Punch).
